Eriez Provides Precise Sand Feeder for UK Roof Tile Plant

Vibratory feeders from Eriez Magnetics Europe Ltd (Bedwas, Caerphilly, Wales) are making an important contribution to the production of roof tiles manufactured by Sandtoft at its Broomfleet Tileworks in East Yorkshire.

Positioned above the conveyors, the model HC36 High Control vibratory feeders distribute a thin, even layer of sand onto the roof tiles in the processing line at a rate of 150kg per hour to produce the desired finish that has become popular with customers across the UK.

Designed to meet the most rigorous international standards, the rugged construction of the electro-magnetically driven HC36 feeders, combined with their unique energy efficient AC drive and low power consumption, makes them the ideal units for abrasive applications such as at Sandtoft.

The High Control range has precision variable (0-100%) control. During the Sandtoft trials each feeder was supplied with a stainless steel tray measuring 250mm (width) by 610mm (length), a hopper through which the material is collected and fed and a variable speed control. The special design of the drive ensures a very even spread of the process material, critical in this application and not possible with many other types of vibratory feeder.

Extensive tests were of carried out on typical sand samples in the state-of-the-art laboratory at Eriez’ European Headquarters in Caerphilly, South Wales and the impressive results proved that it was possible to feed a very thin layer of sand onto the tile surface which eliminated product wastage and therefore reduced the manufacturing cost.

Eriez said: “The team at Eriez take pride in manufacturing quality vibratory systems that are low maintenance and easy-to-operate, and we will continue to push the boundaries to meet processors’ expectations”.
