Dialogue Between Designers and Materials Scientists

Hosted by InnovationRCA and the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IoM3), the second Materialise Forum on the afternoon of Tuesday 26 September 2006 explores innovation in materials and design, providing an opportunity to meet and engage with artists, designers, materials scientists and industrialists, in the creative environment of the Royal College of Art in London.

Sponsored by the Audi Design Foundation and MaDE (the Materials and Design Exchange), the Forum marks the start of the newly established Design Node of the UK Materials Knowledge Transfer Network (www.materialsktn.net).

Professor Ron Arad, product designer, and Dr Alan Smith, nanotechnologist, will provide provocative and stimulating presentations from design and science perspectives. Roundtable discussion groups chaired by industry partners will brainstorm materials innovation in the design of buildings, healthcare products, consumer goods, textiles etc. RCA film expert Al Rees will present an entertaining glimpse of materials innovation in the cinema.

A drinks reception and exhibition private view of the work of the RCA Helen Hamlyn Research Associates, entitled Human Frame, will be held directly after the Forum. There will also be the chance to see a sister exhibition, Moving Frame, which looks at changes in film, video and digital media.

To obtain a ticket send your postal address to joanna.ivison@rca.ac.uk or call 020 7590 4249. Prior booking is required for this event.
