DSF’s New Kiln Comes Onstream

The new Bricesco high temperature kiln at DSF Refractories & Minerals Ltd (Friden, nr Buxton, England) is now operational, successfully firing the company’s mullite products. The company said that it was true that this new kiln is coming on line at a time when the order book is not quite so full, so the extra capacity will not instantly transfer into extra sales, but DSF equally pointed out that this new facility will allow a faster reaction time and reduce standard lead times for some of the DSF flagship products including DSF Frisil H.

The new kiln is more efficient and will reduce the company’s gas usage and CO2 emissions per tonne of refractory fired.

DSF Mullite products continue to be the material of choice in glass furnace regenerators; for containers and float glass and also widely used in the superstructure and crown fibre glass melting furnaces.

The UK plant capacity is currently about 50,000 tonnes per year, with an annual turnover of about £21 million.

DSF employs around 150 skilled and experienced people in the Derbyshire factory. It considers these employees to be one of the major attributes of the company and says it is proud to be recognised by the award of Investors in People.

DSF employs a quality management system which complies with ISO 9000 and it has been accredited by the British Standards Institution since 1988. Following an audit by the British Safety Council in 2007, the company was awarded a maximum 5 stars in the BSC Safety Scheme.
