Denby Celebrates 200 Years With Special Party

Denby Pottery’s 200th anniversary of producing high quality pottery in the UK is being celebrated over 27-28 June 2009 with a big birthday party to be held at the Denby Visitor Centre.

Denby has a long and rich history and has evolved to meet the changing needs of society and for generations has been at the heart of the home. It was founded as a manufacturer of bottles and household goods (the Denby Hot Water Bottle kept feet warm throughout the Napoleonic Wars). It has also helped to sustain Britain through its first ‘dot.com’ revolution in the 1870s (when telegraphic insulators were one of Denby’s biggest sellers), the Great Depression (when there was huge demand for Denby’s brightly coloured art ware) and World War II (‘utility’ brown teapots helped sustain the home front). Today, Denby pottery remains the number one choice for the bride in the UK.

To mark Denby’s 200th birthday there are a series of new product launches and events throughout 2009. The company is also holding a series of events at its stockists across the UK, Ireland and America. However, the highlight of the celebration will be held at Denby’s award winning Visitor Centre, which will host the Bicentenary Celebration Party during the weekend of 27th and 28th June commencing at 10am on both days.

To mark Denby’s Bicentenary there will be an extra 20% off almost everything in Denby’s Factory Outlets across the UK and in the Home Store, Factory Shop, Garden, Gift and Emporia Shops at Denby Visitor Centre between 26 June and 2 July.

Garry Biggs, Managing Director of Denby, commented: “This is a great celebration marking a major milestone in Denby’s long and varied history, and we look forward to having a celebration that will appeal to the local community, our work force, and to the many millions of people who own and cherish Denby in their homes”.

Paul McGowan, Chairman of Denby, added “Denby has never stood still, and continues to thrive. We hope this event will encourage the many friends of Denby to go along to our Visitor Centre and Factory Outlet Stores throughout the country to experience Denby’s broad and varied range of products, from our much loved classic patterns through to our new contemporary designs”.
