Code of Practice on Sustainability Launched
The UK’s Engineering Council (London, England) has produced a code of practice to clarify the role of engineers in relation to sustainability.
‘Guidance on Sustainability’ lists key principles to guide professional engineers in their work, such as:
- Contribute to building a sustainable society.
- Use resources efficiently and effectively.
- Seek multiple views to solve sustainability challenges.
- Manage risk to minimise adverse impact to people or the environment.
The document should be read alongside other sustainability related information, such as codes and policy statements, produced by professional engineering institutions such as IoM3.
