Silica - The Arguments Against Lower Occupational Exposure Levels

A document addressing the issue of respirable crystalline silica is currently available from the British Ceramic Confederation (BCC) at a cost of £60. Please contact soniam@ceramfed.co.uk for further details.

The document is entitled ‘The Measurement of Airborne Respirable Crystalline Silica at Low Occupation Exposure Levels’ and has been authored by Dr R C Brown, Dr M A Moore and Mrs B C Reeve.

This represents the results of a significant piece of research into the measurement of exposure to silica in the workplace. The research explores the complex question of whether or not it is possible to measure levels of crystalline silica accurately at very low levels currently being considered by regulators.

The results are said by the BCC to be very revealing and represent an important contribution to the contentious debate surrounding silica and whether there could be any merit in reducing permissible exposure levels still further.
