Ancora Group Expands Business in Tunisia

Ancora Group (Sassuolo, MO, Italy) has won the contract to expand the end-of-line treatment plant for the new Carthago Ceramic factory in Tunisia.

The company has won the contract to double up the line in the new Carthago Ceramic factory. This expansion comes shortly after the opening of the new production unit in the industrial area of Agreb-Sfax, Tunisia where the modern polishing and squaring line for large format porcelain tile (up to 600cm x1200cm), designed and built by Ancora Group at its Sassuolo facility, has started up operation.

The synergies put in place between Ancora’s mechanical division and polishing centres have enabled it to develop cutting-edge technology and plants for lapped products, one of the latest trends in the field of porcelain tile finishing.

In spite of the economic downturn that is hindering growth worldwide, GPH Group member company Carthago Ceramic is continuing its local and international development programme. It has confirmed Ancora Group as its key partner for the end of line section, awarding it a new contract for the design and production of a plant for lapping and squaring of glazed porcelain tile, thereby completing the range of finishes offered in the Carthago Porcellanato product range.

The swinging 20-head lapping machine, which will begin operation in August, will have the dual function of lapping glazed porcelain tile and polishing unglazed porcelain tile. Simply by changing tools (floating resin-bonded diamond tools for lapping glazed porcelain tile or magnesite-bonded abrasives for polishing unglazed porcelain tile), the line can be optimised according to production requirements.

The new Carthago Ceramic factory, located 20km from Sfax city centre and specialising in the production of unglazed porcelain tile, will allow the Tunisian company to increase its share of the local market and exports to markets such as Nigeria, Iraq, Romania and Belgium.

The Ancora Group is a well established industrial company capable of analysing requests and proposing technically and economically optimised solutions. In its areas of competence the company says its mechanical division controls 90% of the Italian market and 75% of the foreign market, not including China and the Far East. The finishing division specialises in polishing, lapping, cutting and grinding of ceramic tiles and makes the Ancora Group the largest third party production centre in the world.
