Innovation
Ceram is leading the way in innovation in two ways: by forging ahead with the development of new materials and technologies relevant to its markets and by acting as an ‘Innovation Black Box’ for its clients - developing innovative ideas together, testing the feasibility of those ideas and then bringing them quickly and cost-effectively to market.
To support the drive of the innovation-side of its business, Ceram has recruited a team of highly-qualified scientists, with a wealth and breadth of expertise, as Technical Consultants. Along with Ceram’s renowned materials scientists, the Technical Consultants will form the New Technologies Group.
The New Technologies Group is working on a number of exciting, cutting-edge projects which include:
Controlled Release Materials and Technologies
In many applications, across industries such as healthcare, home care and agriculture, it is highly desirable to control dosage over time of active ingredients delivered from formulations. A fundamental challenge facing formulators and product developers is how to control the dose and how to ensure even delivery over a controlled period. At Ceram, we have combined our appreciation for the challenges associated with controlled release with our extensive knowledge of materials and their technologies to develop a range of tailored solutions.
Bio-ceramics and New Drug Delivery Methods
Using our unrivalled ceramics expertise we are working on a number of projects involving bio-ceramics for the medical devices sector. This is ground-breaking materials science that will include coating, forming, control and drug delivery technologies.
Novel Methodologies to Reduce Water Used in Product/Manufacture
With water becoming an increasingly scarce resource, businesses are looking to reduce water used in product/manufacture not only for cost reasons but also to ensure that they are ready for any legislation which may be introduced in the future. At Ceram we are working with our clients to help them achieve a reduction in fresh water usage.
Sustainability in the Built Environment
In response to demands from our clients, we are developing more services and capabilities in this area. Sustainable sourcing, recycling, reuse and reduce will be at the heart of our offerings with the aim of having pragmatic and practical applications for existing and new industries.
Radical Technologies for the Reduction of Energy Consumption in the Manufacture of Ceramics, Bricks, Tiles
Our clients in all sectors are looking to reduce energy consumption in the manufacture of their products. To this end, we have strengthened our investigations into the different forms of materials and the effects of those materials on reducing firing/sintering energy requirements.
