CSMA, CERAM subsidiary and one of the world’s leading surface analysis experts and member of both the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) and the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA), has developed a comprehensive range of services ideally suited to the aerospace industry.

The technology involved in effective aerospace design is heavily reliant on coating performance levels and successful surface interaction between individual components, all of which makes CSMA’s skills in surface characterisation, profiling and validation extremely relevant.

CSMA’s work with thermal barrier coatings in particular demonstrates this. The multiple layered nature of such coatings can prove difficult to examine. With CSMA’s depth profiling techniques however, individual layers and their respective elemental compositions can be examined to the finest detail in order to ensure that maximum performance and subsequent safety levels are achieved.

Similarly, CSMA’s suite of cutting edge instrumentation and world leading experience in data interpretation means that issues such as surface stress cracking, contamination, lubrication effectiveness and disbondment/delamination, all of which can affect the performance of aerospace technology, can be explored, the causes identified and appropriate solutions found.
