Two National Packaging Awards for Ceramics

Danisco Pack, one of the UK's largest corrugated packaging companies, has won two coveted Silver Stars for ceramics packaging at the 2000 Institute of Packaging Starpack Awards. The awards are in recognition of innovative packaging designs for Josiah Wedgwood and Sons and comprise a family of gift sets called 'Time for Wedgwood' and a ceramic turkey platter transit pack.

Key benefits of both designs include improved in-store presentation, increased in-transit protection, a reduction in unit costs and increased packaging speed on the production line.

The 'Time for Wedgwood' gift pack has completely changed the way the product is displayed and presented in-store. Most importantly, the design has helped Wedgwood to penetrate new sectors including the Japanese retail market.

Traditionally, products were displayed as 'open stock' on shelves and were hand wrapped and put in carrier bags. However, when launching this sophisticated new product range, it was decided to present the product in mini gift packs.

The title of the range 'Time for Wedgwood' was considered when designing the pack of 6 cups and saucers. The saucers were positioned in the middle, with the cups radiating out in a die cut fitting, to look like a clock-face.

The entire range consists of hexagonal shaped boxes and lids, with well crafted inner fittings which securely hold and effectively display the superb product.

The use of this award winning packaging concept has helped the launch of 'Time for Wedgwood' to be a resounding success for the company.
