British Sugar factory opening dates announced

Following agreement with the NFU, British Sugar have announced the opening dates of its nine UK factories for the 2000 processing season, which gets under way later this month.

Preparations are well advanced to ensure a smooth intake of the crop, starting on 21 September at Ipswich factory. Root samples evaluated since the beginning of August show that yield expectations are running in line with the five-year average level of sugar production.

Weighbridge Opening Dates are as follows:

  • Ipswich - 21 September
  • Bury, Cantley and Wissington - 25 September
  • Bardney, Newark and York - 27 September
  • Allscott - 2 October
  • Kidderminster - 5 October

  • The range of dates reflects the crop expectations around the country.

Commenting on the build up to the campaign start, British Sugar operations director, Karl Carter said: "We have maintained our investment programme to ensure all factories run at peak performance and we look forward to another successful campaign."
