SPARKing the Imagination
The new Powdermatrix SPARK awards having been awarded earlier in the year - 14 awards were available in the first round - the first five projects are under way.
These include projects being run by Unitec Ceramic Materials and also Dynamic Ceramic.
Unitec manufactures zirconias which find applications in sensors and fuel cells. SPARK funding will help the company to increase sales by developing spray granulate which will press to a denser product and so maintain Unitec's competitive edge.
Reducing tooling costs and lead times, combined with improved production consistency, are the drivers for the Dynamic Ceramic project which is a feasibility study of gel casting for nearer net shape forming.
