Q2 Figures from OCL India

OCL India Ltd (Rajgangpur, Orissa, India) has issued unaudited financial results (provisional) which show sales/income operations for the second quarter of 2002 standing at 843.3 million Indian Rupees (Rs), as against Rs 873.9 million for the same period in 2001. Other income stood at Rs 7.2 million (Q2 2001: Rs 9.2 million).

Profit before tax increased by 11.9% over the same period in 2001, from Rs 58.8 million to Rs 59.5 million.

The refractory part of the operation accounted for sales of Rs 251.1 million in the quarter.

OCL India - formerly Orissa Cement Ltd - was established in 1949 and entered into the field of refractories in 1954 as part of its diversification plan.

The company has supplied more than 275,000mt of silica to various steel plants in India, Brazil, UK, USA, Australia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, South Korea, Italy etc in addition to other refractories.

The company has supplied refractories to the steel and glass industries since 1954, with silica for coke oven battery and hot blast stoves having been a speciality. OCL also manufactures refractories for the copper and aluminium industries. The overall refractories range includes silica, basic, magnesia carbon, high alumina, fireclay, castables, pre-cast and continuous casting.
