Recent Middle East Performance


In its latest review, the Arab Union for Cement & Building Materials briefly addresses some of the ceramic sector performances.

Jordan Ceramic Factories Company registered net sales in 2001 up 9% over 2000. Net posted profits were JD 1.04 million, as compared to JD 979,000 the previous year. The company allocated a reserve of JD 500,000 to modernise its machines for future expansions, as the company's plans concentrate on developing its products and introducing new models for the sanitaryware market. The company intends to concentrate its marketing activities locally and abroad and also wishes to upgrade the machines in its tile plant.

Saudi Ceramic Company produced 12,100 tons of sanitaryware in 2001. Its production of ceramic tiles hit the 7 million square metre mark. The company also produces heaters (150,000 pieces in 2001) and ceramic road markers.

In Syria, the Arabian Co for Porcelain and Sanitaryware produced 132,294 pieces of sanitaryware in the first quarter of 2002. It exported 2,405 pieces from this production. The company also produces ceramic tiles and exported nearly 50,000 pieces in the period.
