High Performance Particle Sizing

The new Malvern HPPS (High Performance Particle Sizer) is described as a compact, robust and versatile instrument that covers an application range currently requiring three conventional dynamic light scattering systems and is additionally claimed by the manufacturer Malvern Instruments Ltd (Malvern, Worcs, England) to be the first single instrument to deliver particle size measurement at high sensitivity and high concentration over a wide size range.

Applications include the measurement of sub-nanometer size particles as small as 0.6nm, and molecules in solution (including highly absorbing samples) through to the analysis of particles up to 6 microns. Coupled with the ability to measure with no or minimal dilution, this is said to make the HPPS a uniquely flexible analytical tool for particle size measurement across an "unmatched range of concentrations and sizes".

It is said to be especially suited to the measurement of colloidal systems, and proteins and macromolecules in solution, as well as more traditional applications in the chemical industry.
