Keramischer OFENBAU Builds Insulator Kiln for Thai Customer

Keramischer OFENBAU GmbH (Hildesheim, Germany) has delivered a shuttle kiln with firing temperatures up to approximately 1300°C for reduction firing for ceramic insulators. The customer is Asian Insulators PLC, set up in 1981 near Bangkok in Thailand. The company manufactures 7,500 high voltage insulators per year, including suspension, line post, pin post, station post, strain type and spool type insulators. From 9 September 2004, the company became listed on the Thailand Stock Market.

The insulators being fired in the new kiln are 1.6m high and have a diameter of 30cm. The shuttle kiln offers a setting volume of around 40 cubic metres with three cars in total for a setting of approximately 20 units.

The high voltage insulators are being used for power lines and a consistently high quality needs to be achieved in production. Therefore, the kiln is equipped with a fully automatic reduction system so that a contaminant-free operation is ensured. Due to the excellent control maintained within the kiln, says Keramischer OFENBAU, reproducible quality of the ware is repeatedly achieved. Moreover, much to the customer's surprise, the firing cycles have been reduced to less than 40 hours and the low energy consumption was confirmed when in operation this fell below the guaranteed figures.
