New Keller HCW Packaging Plant at Jacobi Tonwerke

By investing in a new high performance and highly flexible packaging plant for accessories, traditional roof tile manufacturer Jacobi Tonwerke (Bilshausen and Duderstadt, Germany) has taken a further step forward to a future and demand-oriented company.

In close cooperation with Keller HCW GmbH (Ibbenbren-Laggenbeck, Germany), Jacobi Tonwerke developed the concept for the new packaging plant, installed earlier this year according to a rapid schedule and without any problems.

The new plant consists of: sorting area with auxiliary pallet circulation and two robots; film wrapping equipment with immersion plant; and palletising equipment.

The complexity of the plant is characterised by two parameters. Accessories for 11 different roof tile types as well as two flat roof tiles are to be packed in the packaging plant. Each size is to be packed according to its individual packaging requirements. A maximum of three different products are unloaded simultaneously from the kiln cars. These products are fed to the packaging plant from two sides.

The kiln car unloading and forming of small packs is carried out manually. For this the products are put together in small packs on auxiliary pallets. These pallets are transported on belt conveyors to the sorting personnel. By a special coding on the auxiliary pallets and a corresponding identification system, the different products are fed to their respective machine systems.

The auxiliary pallets are designed so that the small packs can be strapped in a horizontal position on auxiliary pallets.

As an alternative to this standard way of packing, special sizes are formed manually into packs and are then put automatically into the plant. Furthermore, the film wrapping device can be by-passed by the appropriate selection on the control panel. The bars are then further packed without shrink film.
