International Ceramics Festival in Japan

The 6th International Ceramics Festival will take place in the Ceramics Park, Mino, Japan from 12 October 2002 to 4 November 2002. The first event was held in 1986. The main attraction will be the Ceramics Competition which has a markedly international flavour. In the last competition, there were 3,507 works entered from ceramic artists in 64 different countries and regions.

The actual works will be judged by internationally renowned people in the field of ceramic design and art. Special measures to make it easier for overseas applicants to enter are being implemented, such as special handling of the registration and transportation fees. Together, say the organisers, these features will help to ensure that the competition will be a springboard to international success for the world ceramics designers and artists.

The ceramic industry has recently seen the entry of new materials and techniques in the field - along with continuing advanced in the creation of a borderless world. Together, these are expected to create new parameters for the industry.

Chair of the Festival is Masaya Nishidera, the Mayor of Tajimi.
