Eurotherm's 2500 Controller Gets Ethernet Comms Capability

The Model 2500 multi-loop controller and data acquisition unit from Eurotherm Ltd (Worthing, West Sussex, England) now has the capability of communicating as a slave device on any Modbus TCP/IP network. The instrument can connect to up to four simultaneous TCP/IP masters, providing the ability to interface to Eurotherm's 5000 Series data management devices and also third party devices such as PLCs, HMI or PCs running SCADA applications.

In addition, the same Ethernet communications facility will shortly be available on other units in the 2000 Series of discrete panel mount temperature and process controllers.

The 2500 is described as a high performance controller able to run up to eight PID control loops, with advanced features such as mathematical and combinational logic functions. The product line consists of a base (rack) processor, terminal units, plug-in I/O modules and an externally mounted 24V DC power supply.

Six base sizes allow for up to 64 analogue and 128 digital inputs and outputs. DIN rail or panel mounting allows the unit to be mounted where the control action is required, minimising the cost of the wiring since only the communications cable is taken to the user interface.

Eurotherm says that the 2500 system incorporates a number of unique hardware and software innovations to provide accurate, reliable PID process control functions with communications capability, plus exceptionally flexible system design, configuration and operation. The system is claimed to provide both OEMs and plant operators with powerful local analogue control capabilities.
