.ekwc Expands Its Work Area With Architecture

The European Ceramic Work Centre (.ekwc) in 's-Hertogenbosch, Holland wants to spend the next few years infusing new life into the relationship between ceramics and architecture. For that reason, it will be starting two new projects in 2005. One project will focus on the brick and the other will focus on five annual combined residencies in the centre for visual artists/designers and architects.

To achieve its objective - to promote developments in ceramics - the centre takes every opportunity to further expand and broaden the uses for ceramic as a medium.

Because .ekwc is a place where the boundaries of the ceramic field are continuously challenged, the centre can also function as a place where architectural uses in ceramics can be further explored. To achieve this goal, .ekwc sought the advice of a number of experts in the field and has chosen to attack on two fronts. The project 'Brick' will focus on achieving tangible results. Every professional who has new ideas about the production and/or use of the brick as a building material is welcome.

The project 'Combined residencies' focuses more on a change of mentality: to demonstrate that cooperation between architects, visual artists and designers at as early a stage as possible benefits the interactive, creative process.
