dmc2 concentrates on high-tech materials - Gold and silver refining to be transferred to Norddeutsche Affinerie AG

dmc2 Degussa Metals Catalysts Cerdec AG, Hanau, will transfer gold and silver refining from the Hanau-Wolfgang facility to Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA), Hamburg, by the end of 2000 pending approval by the antitrust authorities.

In future, dmc2 will concentrate primarily on the refining of platinum group metals such as platinum, palladium or rhodium at its Hanau Wolfgang facility. This step underlines the company's focus on targeted expansion in the technological growth areas of precious metals compounds, for example in homogeneous catalysis and recycling of platinum group metals. Wet chemical refining of platinum group metals is being pursued actively. dmc2 also operates a high-temperature furnace for recycling platinum group metals from spent automotive catalysts and similar materials at the Hanau-Wolfgang site.

dMC2 and Norddeutsche Affinerie have had a long-standing relationship. Currently, dmc2 has a 10% stake in NA. NA plans to centralise and expand gold and silver refining activities in Hamburg. dMC2 will focus on platinum group metals from a marketing and technological standpoint.
