Coverings 2001 Announces Three-Day Format

Coverings, the International Tile & Stone Exhibition, has announced that the 2001 New Orleans event will take place over three days, instead of the historical four-day pattern. The Morial Convention Center exhibit halls will be open to trade and professional visitors from 21 May 2001-23 May 2001 from 10am to 6pm. The Board of Governors' decision to make the exhibition a three-day event currently only applies to the New Orleans edition. Further decisions will not be made until the results and comments are heard sifter this year's exhibition.

The decision was made because many exhibitors had requested a traditional three-day American show, as opposed to the longer European exhibition format, which can run up to seven days.

"Our mission is to create the highest ROI (return on investment) for our exhibitors," stated William 'Skip' Mason, President of TSI Inc, which manages the event. "Most of all, the most precious commodity today is simply 'time'. Everyone is looking for ways to accomplish more ...in less time. There are areas where we will have to make some adjustments to help both exhibitors and attendees maximize their time at Coverings. In the end we will be guided by our exhibitors... and guide our actions accordingly."

Reflecting this initiative, the 2001 edition of the event's conference programme 'The Solution Source', which annually draws over 5,000 attendees, will focus on increasing individual productivity. In addition to the merchandising, design and technical sessions, a special track entitled 'T.I.D.Y. - Time Invested...Dollars Yielded' will be developed. With over 100 sessions, the conference logistically requires more time than can be accommodated in three days. Consequently, the conference will begin on the afternoon before (20 May 2001) and then continue to run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. This will provide for a schedule where the conference does not have to conflict with exhibit hall hours.
