Clay Technology Conference

'Innovating Clay Technology - Future Solutions for the Clay Building Products Industry' is a two-day conference taking place at the Bretby Conference Centre, Burton-on-Trent, Staffs, England from 12-13 November 2002. It is being coordinated jointly by the Institute of Clay Technology and the Building Materials Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3).

The conference will discuss the considerable challenges facing companies and the importance of innovation in tackling them. Key subject areas will be:

• Raw Materials: resources and alternatives to help with shortages of suitable clays, mineral planning and recycling requirements.

• Manufacturing Process: the production process, with particular emphasis on new ideas in preparation, shaping, colours, textures and the health and safety and environmental issues arising from the process.

• Energy: drying and firing, kiln and refractories design, conservation, Climate Change Levy.

• Human Resources: how can the industry both retain its present skilled people and attract a future workforce with the right skills?

• Distribution to Market: with predicted log jams, what is the future for the present delivery systems?

• The Market: sustainability and product innovation. What do our customers want?


The conference is intended for all who work within the industry or who are in some way connected with its future success. There will be opportunities for suppliers to show new products/ideas.
