Ceramitec 2003 Closing Report Extract

Messe Mnchen GmbH (Munich, Germany) says that Ceramitec - which closed on 20 September - has reaffirmed its position as the leading international trade fair for the ceramics sector and powder metallurgy industry. The figure of almost 60% of visitors coming from outside Germany set another new record for the event. In total, around 25,000 trade visitors (down 10%) from 106 countries attended.

Around 18% of foreign visitors came from the Middle East and Asia - with particularly strong representation from Iran, Thailand, India and China - while there was a significant increase in the numbers from Eastern Europe, particularly Russia, Czech Republic and Poland.

"This fair is so attractive to visitors from all over the world because of its broad spectrum of exhibits covering virtually all areas of technology," commented Dr Peter Miczajka (Eirich, Germany), backed up by Roman Lackner from Saint-Gobain who said there were "lots of international visitors received, in particular from India, Iran, Turkey, China and Japan. We were able to talk to many top managers and company owners. Ceramitec is an ideal portal for presenting innovations".

Clive Drinkwater, coordinator of the British pavilion at the event, also gave it strong backing: "For British companies, Ceramitec is the most important trade fair, in particular because of its high level of international participation. It was noticeable at our stand that there were more visitors from China, Thailand and South America. The British exhibitors will most certainly be back in 2006".

Clearly, despite other successful shows in the sector, many exhibitors feel that this one still has the broadest pull. Daniela Tosi from the Italian company Tecnofiliere reflected this view, commenting: "We had many high-ranking guests at our stand from Spain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Argentina, Chile and even Australia.

"Only in Munich is there such a broad international spread among the audience and, as 40 percent of our business is from export, good international contacts are very important to us."

A survey of exhibitors conducted by NFO Infratest revealed that 98% of them had talked to visitors from abroad at their stand, and that the increases in the number of visitors from Russia, Iran and India - as compared to 2000 - had been as much as 100%. China and Turkey were also strong participants in Ceramitec, both from the exhibitor and visitor points of view. Cheng Bian from major Chinese group Keda said: "We are very satisfied. We were able to present our new products at our large stand. Our machines were transported to Germany in six containers. One very positive factor about Ceramitec is the high number of international visitors. We were able to sign up some new business with a number of customers".

Messe Mnchen has announced that the next exhibition - Ceramitec 2006 - will take place at the Munich Trade Fair Centre from 10-14 October 2006.
