Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Awards 2007

The deadline for this year's application to the Business Commitment to the Environment Awards is fast approaching with less than 3 weeks to complete and return the simple application form.

The awards are said to provide fantastic recognition for companies who positively impact the environment through improvements in products, processes and management systems.

Both large and small companies are invited to apply with projects that have been a major achievement for the company. Last year's top winner - InterfaceFLOR, a worldwide leader in the production of environmentally-responsible floor coverings - had undergone a comprehensive transformation geared toward becoming the first company with a zero environmental footprint by 2020.

Other premier winners included Toyota UK who won an award for reducing their waste from 8.5kg per car to less that 0.5kg. Saint-Gobain invented a novel glass recycling technique for flat glass and Walltransform invented an energy efficient product - insulating plaster. Unilever won an award for a massive water reduction campaign benefiting Latin America.

Last year's winners were delighted with the coverage they received. After the prestigious ceremony presented by Leader of the Opposition David Cameron, a double-page feature appeared in the Daily Telegraph. Eddie Bingham, UK Engineering Director at InterfaceFLOR, said: "The award acts as a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved at InterFLOR. Throughout each and every level of the company, there is a real belief in what we are trying to do. Hopefully other businesses, both large and small will see what can be achieved and follow us on our quest to be 100% sustainable".

Once again, the BCE Awards are being run in association with the European Environment Awards scheme.

The application form and details of previous winners are available from www.bceawards.org

The closing date for the Awards is 6 October 2006.
