Tile Glazing Covered During Course in Portugal

ACIMAC (Modena, Italy) organised a training course and technological symposium devoted to tile decoration and glazing from 17-20 September in Aveiro, Portugal. About 30 technicians from local Portuguese ceramic companies took part. The course was led by expert tutors Giuliano Guerrieri and Paolo Panini and covered in detail all the various technologies that can be used in the glazing and decorating stages, starting out from glazes and their application.

Portugal has 43 ceramic wall and floor tile companies employing a total of more than 4,000 people. In 2000, production amounted to 65 million square metres, 19 square million metres of which was exported. Imports into the country totalled 23 million square metres. The sector's annual turnover is just over 300 million euros.

The course in Portugal was the third of the five foreign training courses scheduled by ACIMAC for 2001. The other two already completed were held in Egypt in January and in Tunisia in April (devoted to brick and roof tile production technologies). Two courses in Iran and Brazil are scheduled for October and November. ACIMAC is the Italian Ceramic Plant and Machinery Manufacturers' Association and selected member companies tend to make presentations of their latest innovations of the final day of these courses during a technological symposium.
