Unifrax Introduced New Insulation Product

Unifrax has introduced Foamfrax Insulation, an advanced high temperature technology for furnace lining applications. New Foamfrax Insulation is said to offer exceptional energy savings, installation speeds and lining performance for upgrades of existing fibre linings, lining over refractory, and furnace lining patches or refits.

This monolithic insulation system is a three-component system of specially conditioned bulk ceramic or soluble fibres, an inorganic binder and an organic foam binder. The installation process combines the bulk fibre material with the inorganic and organic binders in a patented mixing mechanism creating an homogeneous foam/fibre mixture.

The Foamfrax installation machinery propels this mixture through a feed hose and nozzle and the material is gunned on to the target surface. The proprietary Foamfrax binder system and patented installation method completely encapsulate the fibres with the foaming binder, significantly reducing airborne fibre levels during installation.

Foamfrax Insulation can be gunned directly on to metal, refractory or fibre surfaces at installation rates in excess of 1,000 board feet per hour, dramatically reducing downtime. When installed as a lining upgrade or lining over existing refractory, the product is reported to have demonstrated a substantial improvement in thermal performance, saving thousands of dollars in energy costs. In addition to furnace lining upgrades, it can also be installed as a full-thickness system in units operating at temperatures up to 1340°C.
