Turkish Ceramics Welcomes Thousands at Cersaie Special Event

Almost 3,000 people were present at the show organised in Piazza Maggiore, Bologna, by Turkish Ceramics, on the occasion of the last Cersaie edition.

As “earth meets fire in ceramics, the soul meets the body in dance”, so there was a presentation at Cersaie of 40 artists of the Shaman Dance Theatre who performed in an amazing and exciting show. An original performance of Anatolian folk dance, the show was the crossing point of different arts and folk dance from all over the world. The 15 choreographers of the Shaman Dance Theatre represented Anatolia like a tree expanding its branches to the Western world and legendary love and separation stories, conflicts and wars developing in them.

Known for its well-founded position in the ceramic industry and thanks to its richness in natural resources and to its 8,000 year-long tradition in Central Anatolia, Turkey is today the sixth largest tile producer in the world with a 260 million square metre annual production.

Highly innovative technologies, constant technical and design research and environment-friendly behaviour are the landmarks of the Turkish ceramics producers, said the organisation.

Representing the whole Turkish ceramics industry, Bahadır Kayan, President of the Turkish Ceramics Promotion Group (and currently General Manager of the Kale Group Export Company), declared: “The Turkish ceramics companies have been faithful to the prestigious ceramic art of their forerunners and have been able to combine multicultural historic richness and the most modern style trends.

“Turkish presence in the international market has constantly grown in the last few years; it has reached in 2007 40% of internal production in exportations with 104 million of square metres annually. That is the result of investments in modernisation and innovative technologies for an environmental sustainable production, together with an effective research in materials and trends in the international design”.

The Turkish ceramics industry has increased its production tenfold in the last 10 years, with an annual increase in exports of 15% and increases in production capacity of 18%. Under the aegis of the Turkish Ceramics Federation, the Association of Tile Producers (SERKAP) and the Association of Ceramic Sanitaryware Producers (SERSA) cooperate with the Turkish ceramics companies for their growing globalisation.

The most important export markets for ‘Made in Turkey’ ceramics are Great Britain, Israel, Georgia, Canada, Germany, Greece, United States, France and Romania.
