Sandtoft Expands Business Development Team With New Promotion

Leading roof tile manufacturer Sandtoft Roof Tiles has recently expanded its business development team with the promotion of Nick King to Business Development Manager for the Midlands region. In his new role, Nick will take responsibility for strengthening the company's position in the specification market.

Nick Oldridge, Sales and Marketing Director at Sandtoft Roof Tiles, commented: “Nick has become a valued asset to Sandtoft in a relatively short time; I am confident he will make a positive addition to our business development team. As the company continues to be the most innovative in its sector, Nick will help us to maintain and build on this success in the future”.

Nick has represented Sandtoft in the East Midlands since 2003 and has been instrumental in much of the company's success in the region.

Commenting on his promotion, he said: “I am delighted to have been promoted to this new role and look forward to working as part of the development team. Sandtoft's focus on innovation and the speed with which we can respond to customer requirements will enable me to make an immediate impact on key specifiers in both the public and private sectors. These are very exciting times for Sandtoft and I am pleased to be joining such an expert team”.

Sandtoft has also recently announced that it has launched a bespoke haulage planning system to enhance delivery efficiency and service for customers. Designed internally, the system has been developed specifically to mirror the unique demands of Sandtoft customers.

The new system, operating on large 24” monitors, provides Sandtoft's team of transport planners with an interactive visual representation of planned activity for the company's national fleet of delivery vehicles set alongside a list of orders to be fulfilled.

Using an innovative technique, Sandtoft operators simply drag orders directly from the customer list and drop these onto the vehicles to make up the load. The computer then automatically calculates load size and capacity to efficiently control the make-up of each vehicle.

Ash Sidaway, Sandtoft's Group Despatch Manager, explained: “This is a highly visual system which allows for rapid and accurate transport planning. Importantly it allows planners at different locations to plan the same lorries, thus enabling a more efficient use of loading capacity”.

Customer orders are immediately entered onto the system upon receipt, together with any specific requirements for offloading, access and timed deliveries. Orders are constantly monitored as they remain on screen until the delivery is fulfilled.

Nick Oldridge added: “We had not previously considered centralised ordering and despatch systems as we felt that it would detract from both the efficiency of our despatch operation and the personal contact which staff have with our customers. However, the in house design option meant we could improve the despatch system without compromising on the flexible and individual service that sets us apart from our competitors.

“In line with our ongoing green initiative, this system was also designed to consider the impact that supply chains have on the environment. Thanks to the quick and efficient load planning system, we ensure we make optimum load use of our vehicles, improve route planning and reduce the number of journeys required.”
