Unique Ceramic Bowls Project in British Potteries

International artist Pamela Wells has worked with 101 individuals in Stoke-on-Trent (Staffs, England) to create a set of four bowls for each participant.

Designs for ‘DISHINIT’ are based on the historical collection of Staffordshire tableware at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Each new bowl has been hand-made by Pamela, thrown on the potter's wheel and painted with ceramic underglazes.

All 404 bowls will be exhibited together at The New Vic Theatre in nearby Newcastle-under-Lyme. The DISHINIT exhibition was launched on 23 October and the bowls will be on display until Saturday 17 November 2007.

After the exhibition, the bowls will return to participants who will each hold a meal with three people they don't live with. The bowls will be used during the meals and everyone involved gets to keep one. Each meal will be represented on the DISHINIT website with photos, recipes and snippets of conversation.

DISHINIT is an artist-led project, with funding and support from Arts Council England, Stoke-on-Trent Museums, the Craft Pottery Charitable Trust, Burslem School of Art, Potclays and the New Vic Theatre.
