OSRAM SYLVANIA Announces Manufacturing Investment

OSRAM SYLVANIA (Danvers, MA, USA) has announced a US$40 million investment in its Manchester, NH (USA) lamp plant. The new production line will be dedicated to ceramic metal halide lighting and will create over 50 new jobs in the plant.

The line will be OSRAM SYLVANIA's first North American installation of ceramic metal halide manufacturing. The line will produce products for customers around the world and is scheduled to open in mid 2009.

Frank Santiago, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the OSRAM SYLVANIA General Lighting division said: "Our decision to install this leading edge production line in Manchester reaffirms our company's commitment to the long term strength and stability of U.S. manufacturing."

The company's ceramic metal halide lamps, sold in the USA under the brand name SYLVANIA METALARC POWERBALL®, have a variety of industrial and commercial uses, such as department stores, supermarkets and warehouses. These efficient lamps are said to have exceptional colour rendering and a long life.

"OSRAM SYLVANIA's Manchester investment will also enhance manufacturing in our Exeter, NH facility, where we produce components for ceramic metal halide lamps," commented Graham Wark, OSRAM SYLVANIA Strategic Business Unit Manager.
