Ceramic for Burner Nozzles

Aremco Inc (Valley Cottage, NY, USA) has launched what is described as a new, low cost, advanced, machinable alumino-silicate ceramic which will be ideal for producing reliable, low cost burner nozzles for use in combustion applications to 1150°C. It can also be used for a wide variety of industrial parts such as electrical and thermal insulators, brazing and soldering fixtures and welding shields.

The product - designated Aremcolox 502-1100-FF - is claimed to demonstrate exceptional mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, including a compressive strength of 25Kpsi, dielectric strength of 100V/mil and thermal conductivity of 9Btu-in/hr-ft2-°F. Aremco adds that its thermal expansion is 2.5in/in/°F x 10-6, making it ideal for thermal shock applications.

The product can be used in oxidising, reducing or vacuum atmospheres. It will not outgas in ultra-high vacuum and it does not react with most molten metals, salts and acids.

It is said to be machined easily using conventional tooling and, after a simple firing procedure, to be fully dense and resistant to 1150°C. Stock sizes include plates from 0.25in to 1in thick; rods from 0.25in to 7in diameter; and bars from 1in x 1in up to 4in x 4in. Aremco also fabricates to customers' prints.
