Kyocera Introduces Silicon Carbide Manufacturing at Vancouver, Washington State

Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation has announced the addition of sintered silicon carbide to its range of non-oxide material capabilities at its manufacturing plant in Vancouver, WA, USA. This will complement the company's existing range of sintered silicon nitride materials, which are recognised for extreme strength, toughness, thermal shock resistance and lightness of weight.

Sintered silicon carbide is typically used in applications demanding an extremely hard, wear resistant surface, excellent corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance or a combination of all three.

The company said that both silicon carbide and silicon nitride could be manufactured into a wide variety of intricate components using its state-of-the-art forming, machining, sintering and grinding capabilities. Assembly services are also available when customers need to combine a ceramic component with another part.

Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation is headquartered in Vancouver, WA, with four manufacturing plants and 12 sales offices throughout the USA. The company manufactures advanced ceramic components and Ceratip cutting tools and it markets LCDs, thermal printheads, fibre optic components and industrial lenses. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyocera International Inc of San Diego, CA - the North American holding company for Kyocera Corporation.

Based in Kyoto, Japan, Kyocera Corporation employs approximately 40,000 people in 25 countries and recorded consolidated sales of US$7.8 billion for the year ended 31 March 2002.
