Metso Expands Manufacturing Capacity in India
Metso Minerals will expand its manufacturing and foundry capacities and office premises in India with a combined investment of €12.5 million. The decision to invest is due to the increased demand for crushing and vibrating equipment and pumps and related service products in India. The expansions will be completed by the end of 2008.
At the steel foundry in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the capacity for crusher wear parts and pump castings will be more than tripled by 2009 from the current 2,000 tons per year to 7,000 tons per year. The expansion includes the doubling of floor space as well as adding more lifting capacity and production equipment. The expansion is targeted to serve primarily the Indian market.
The investment at the Bawal factory in Haryana includes building an assembly line dedicated for mobile crushing and vibrating equipment, doubling the current floor space, as well as new production equipment. With this investment, Metso aims to more than double the supply of mobile crushing and vibrating units by the end of 2009.
The Indian customer base is expanding and the customer requirements are developing towards bigger and more efficient plant solutions. The increased installed base also generates a growing demand for customer service and related products. Metso's aim is to respond to the customer needs by strengthening its presence, capabilities and the capacity to supply in India.
Having established its operations in the early 1990s, today Metso operates through 10 locations in India employing approximately 500 people. The company has, among other things, supplied India’s largest crushing plant and iron ore enrichment plant, as well as the fastest rotary railcar dumper.
