Imerys to Raise Prices of Clays in Europe

Imerys has announced that the prices of its clay products for the ceramics markets in Europe will increase, effective 1 January 2004. The amount of the change will vary by product with increases of between 3% and 10% in most instances.

Imerys says that the increase is necessary to offset rising social, energy and transport costs at the company's operations across Europe. Imerys continues to invest in increasing productivity to minimise the long-term implications of these cost increases.

The company added that stringent environmental regulations bring major long-term benefits for the environment but have led both to further increases in operational costs and significant capital investments.

The company says that through its investment in application knowledge and technical support, it is specialising in helping its customers to drive down their cost base through improved performance and process efficiency.

Imerys is the world's leading producer of white industrial minerals for the ceramic, paper, coatings, polymer and other manufacturing industries and reported sales of €2.9 billion for 2002.
