'Interpreting Ceramics' on-line

Staff at three universities in Wales and the West of England have recently been involved in an innovative project to produce the first international, refereed, electronic journal for ceramics. The journal `Interpreting Ceramics', which went on-line in September can be found at www.uwic.ac.uk/ICRC. The project is the first outcome of the work of a consortium from UWIC (the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff), the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and the University of the West of England, Bristol, who have come together under the title ICRC - Interpreting Ceramics, Research Collaboration.

In publishing on the internet, the journal will allow contributors to exploit the possibilities of new digital media as well as offering more traditional text based approaches. The editorial team of `Interpreting Ceramics' are committed to exploring ways in which collaborative effort, on both a national and international level, can lead to broader and more interdisciplinary research into all those categories of human activity which are indicated by the term 'ceramics'.

Dr. Jeffrey Jones of the Centre for Ceramics Studies at UWIC's Cardiff School of Art & Design, and Co-ordinator and Secretary of the ICRC steering committee, says: "This exciting new development is already generating considerable interest in the international ceramics community and is evidence of what can be achieved by university departments working in close collaboration. A new kind of forum is now available for the publication of articles and research work in all aspects of ceramics."
