SGL Carbon Increases Graphite Electrode Prices
On 27 September 2006, SGL Carbon AG (Wiesbaden, Germany) announced the following new prices for its Graphite Electrodes effective 1 October 2006 for all new business:
Europe:
• Regular-size Graphite Electrodes: 4210 €/MT
• Extra-size Graphite Electrodes: 4480 €/MTAmericas, Asia (excluding China), Near Middle East and Africa:
• For regular-size Graphite Electrodes: 2,33 US$/lb (5135 US-$/mt)
• For extra-size Graphite Electrodes: 2,48 US$/lb (5470 US-$/mt)Regular-sized is defined as: diameter 14" (350mm) – 24" (600mm)
Extra-sized is defined as: diameter 26" (650mm) – 30" (750mm)These prices will be applicable for all new orders received from 1 October 2006 and for shipments up to 31 December 2007. SGL Carbon said that this price increase for graphite electrodes was due to significant cost increases for needle coke, pitch and energy (electricity, gas).
