Degussa-Hüls / Cargill Joint Venture Midwest Lysine on-stream


Midwest Lysine located in Blair, Nebraska went on-stream, completing a very successful construction phase. The joint venture between Degussa-Hüls and Cargill with a total investment of 100 Mio. US $ employs a workforce of 70 and has an annual capacity of 75,000 mt Biolys®60.

Biolys® 60 is an innovative lysine source with many advantages for animal nutrition. In addition to lysine, Biolys® 60 contains valuable co-products from its fermentation.

The technology from Degussa-Hüls combined with Midwest Lysine's location next to Cargill's corn milling plant, which provides both raw materials and infrastructure, strategically positions the joint venture in the fast growing lysine market.

With Midwest Lysine Degussa-Hüls offers amino acids worldwide from 5 production sites. Degussa-Hüls is the only supplier of the three most important amino acids for animal nutrition, i.e. Biolys® 60 (L-Lysine), DL-Methionine and L-Threonine.
