Ceradyne Bags $49 Million Ceramic Body Armour Order

Ceradyne Inc (Costa Mesa, CA, USA) has received a ceramic body armour delivery order worth US$49.2 million from the US Army, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The order is for Enhanced Side Ballistic Inserts (ESBI) which will be delivered from December 2007 through to February 2008. This new delivery order will be shipped against an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract announced in July 2006 which covers a five-year delivery period.

Dave Reed, Ceradyne President of North American Operations, commented: "We are pleased that the Army continues to issue ESBI orders to our Company. Our expanded capacity in Costa Mesa, California, and Lexington, Kentucky, allows us to meet the Army's quality and delivery requirements. We anticipate additional orders on this ID/IQ contract early next year for deliveries throughout 2008".
