WMC Confirms Talks
In a public announcement, in response to a request from the Australian Stock Exchange, the directors of the diversified industrial minerals company WMC Ltd have announced that the company is in discussions with a number of parties, including Alcoa Inc, which may lead to an offer being made to acquire all the ordinary shares in WMC or to a restructuring of WMC. The discussions are understood not yet to be at a point which would require disclosure under the Listing Rules.
The Board said it was uncertain when the discussions would be concluded and what the outcome of the discussions would be.
Alcoa holds 60% of the Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals joint venture with WMC.
