Building Ceramics in Vietnam

VIGLACERA reports that the production plan for ceramic tiles is 69 million square metres. Implementation in the first half of the year reached 33.025 million square metres, equal to 48.11% of the annual plan. This was a 60% increase over the same period in 2000. The enterprises of MOC produced 9.57 million square metres of this total, an increase of 54.6% over the same
period in 2000. Consumption is said to be at a good level, due to the decreasing cost of production and inventory over the country stands at about 5 million square metres.

In early 2001, around 1.063 million pieces of sanitaryware will have been manufactured, reportedly equal to 50.43% of the annual plan - an 18% increase over the same period in 2000. The enterprises of MOC have produced 494,000 pieces, equal to 50.4% of the annual plan and an increase of 13.3% over the same period in 2000. Consumption is 1.9 million pieces and
inventory stands at about 436,000 pieces.

Other building materials are manufactured according to market requirements. Some goods in particular have a good ratio of production to consumption when compared with last year, such as refractory products (increasing by three times) and mechanical products (increase of 27.4%).
