Third Time Round for Turkey Based Ceramic Exhibition

ASDF Fuarcilik Ltd STI (Findikli, Istanbul, Turkey) has announced that 'Seramiktek 2001', which will be its 3rd International Ceramic, Porcelain and Glass Technologies Fair, will take place at the Tyap Fair and Congress Centre in Beylikdz-Bykekmece, Istanbul from 19-22 April 2001. This announcement forms part of a policy package that sees ASDF confirming that, together with its partners, it will stage Seramiktek on an annual basis up until the staging of the 8th European Ceramic Society Congress in Istanbul in 2003. After that, Seramiktek will be held biannually (sic). Also, Seramiktek and the Bathrooms & Ceramic Fair (a finished product exhibition) will remain simultaneous throughout, held at the same fair centre.

Seramiktek will now widen its scope. In previous years, it has concentrated on the production technology for tiles, sanitaryware and tableware. From 2001 onwards, it will seek to incorporate machinery for bricks and rooftiles, as well as adding raw materials supplies and packing and storing machines.

Ceramic facing materials (tiles etc) remain one of Turkey's own strongest contributions to the industry. In 1999, there were 23 groups involved in this side of ceramic manufacture, employing 10,000 people. Installed capacity reached 200 million square metres of tile, with actual production in that year being at around 80% of capacity. This represented growth in this sector of around 400% in just 10 years.
