Recent Tile Exports Up in Jordan and Tunisia


Figures from the Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials show increased ceramic tile exports being achieved in both Jordan and Tunisia.

According to AUCBM, overall production in Jordan reached 1.768 million square metres in both 2000 and 2001. Installed capacity is nearer 2.5 million square metres. Local sales amounted to 1.7 million square metres in 2000 and 1.4 million square metres in 2001, while exports grew substantially - from approximately 176,000 square metres in 2000 to 347,000 square metres in 2001.

Ceramic tile production in Tunisia was 16.649 million square metres in 2000 and 19.506 million square metres in 2001. Total nominal capacities amounted to 21.5 million square metres in 2000 and 23.9 million square metres in 2001.

Exports in 2000 were valued at around TD30 million and rose to TD34.6 million in 2001. Imports in 2001 were valued at TD12.9 million.
