Cash Prizes for Tile Competitions Increased by 400%

The 'Spectrum' and Prism' awards - the international competition for excellence in ceramic tile and natural stone - are increasing their Grand Prize to $10,000 in cash for each contest, up from $2,500 in 2000. First Place winners in each competition will now receive $2,500 in cash, while each recipient of the Award of merit will take home $1,500 in cash. Each competition in divided into two categories: residential and commercial.

Already established as the "Academy Awards" of the ceramic tile industry, the Spectrum Awards will celebrate its 15th edition in 2001, while the Prism competition , only in its second year, is said to be already considered the most prestigious recognition for creative and inspiring uses of natural stone in modern design and architecture.

The winners of the next edition of each design competition will be announced at Coverings 2001, taking place from 21-23 May 2001 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Over 150 entries are expected in each contest.

"Increasing cash prizes was the next logical step because of the popularity and prestige of these awards in the ceramic tile and natural stone industries, and beyond," said William J 'Skip' Mason, president of TSI Inc, the company that organises Coverings. "We want to offer prizes that reflect these growing trends and I think $10,000 in cash definitely sends that message."

In the past, the Spectrum and Prism Awards have honoured some of the most beautiful and creative tile and stone designs in the world. These have included shopping malls, libraries, university campuses, fine restaurants, underground subways and even the floor of the Vatican.

"The deadline is February 15, 2001, so there's still time to vie for the $10,000 in cash by sharing with the world your most creative and inspiring uses of ceramic tile and natural stone in modern design and architecture," said Mason. There is no charge to enter these competitions.
