Continued Progress at Siam Cement
The Siam Cement Group - parent company of major ceramic producing interests
in Thailand - announced continued solid operating performance for the third
quarter of 2002, citing resilient domestic demand in most of its businesses.Unaudited statements showed a total revenue of 34.412 billion baht, up 8%
from the 31.972 billion baht recorded in Q3 2001.Operating profit was 3.219 million baht, down 11% from the previous quarter
this year, but described as nevertheless a very solid third quarter
performance despite the usual seasonal flooding effects and this year's
volatile global petrochemicals prices.Compared to Q3 2001, operating profit increased 180% as a result of better
performances in most businesses that SCC operates, in higher petrochemical
capacity, reduced interest expenses and increased equity income from
associated companies.Unaudited total assets of Siam Cement and subsidiaries as of 30 September
2002 amounted to 237.223 billion baht.
