New SERCO Contract to Manage NPL

SERCO, in conjunction with Sira, has won the contract to manage the National Physical Laboratory for the next 10 years on behalf of the British Government's Department of Trade & Industry (DTI). This follows SERCO's successful management of NPL since 1995 and, it says, ensures NPL's future independence and continuing service to customers.

Under the new contract, NPL will place a much greater emphasis on delivering measurement science that matches the UK's needs, as set down by the DTI, to improve the UK's competitiveness and quality of life. This means that NPL, working with DTI, will choose areas of science that can be exploited both in the short and long term and which impact positively on the economy and society.
