Saudi Ceramics Adopts LB Technology

Saudi Ceramics has signed a major business contract with LB Officine Meccaniche for its new porcelain tile factory that is under construction in Riyadh. The project involves installation of LB Technological Towers to feed four high-tonnage tile presses.

Along with the characteristic vertical batching system developed by LB, the plant will also be equipped with two Easy-Colour dry powder colouring lines.

For press feeding, two feeders will be installed for the production of tiles of superior aesthetic quality with a 'travertine' double-filling effect and 'veined' through-body effect. In addition to this, the plant will also be equipped with a Croma 225 and a Rollfeed 225.

With the new manufacturing lines devoted to producing through-bodied and glazed porcelain tiles, Saudi Ceramics said it aims at strengthening its leadership position in the domestic as well as international markets with products at a very high technical and aesthetic added value.

The company has a number of other expansion plans, including increasing production capacities, modernisation of plants and also introduction of new products and sizes. Notable among the changes is the doubling of tile production capacities to 30 million sq.m. by 2007. This plan has already been approved by the company's board of directors and will be completed in two phases - the first to be completed in 2006 and the second by 2007.

Saudi Ceramics posted a profit from sales operations of SR 44.42 million for the first half of 2005, an increase of 41.83% from operating profit compared to the corresponding period in 2004.
