New Russian Service Paves the way for UK Exporters

Wilson Logistics UK (Hounslow, Middlesex, England), which provides international freight and logistics services to the ceramic and glass industries, is holding out an entrepreneurial hand to British businesses seeking to explore re-emerging markets in Russia. Wilson's new Russian service, built around its own offices in Moscow and St Petersburg - with English speaking staff and what it says is a highly competitive multi-modal transport and logistics service - is offering practical help to potential UK exporters looking to exploit newly found business opportunities in Russia. Wilson says that following the financial crisis of 1998, all the signs are that the Russian economy is gradually recovering. This is borne out by figures showing that UK exports to Russia were up slightly during the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 1999.

Jim Green, national sales manager, said: "Our Russian based staff, with knowledge of local markets and business opportunities, are now providing valuable leads and advice to UK companies wanting to export to Russia. In fulfilling this entrepreneurial role, our offices in Moscow and St Petersburg, as well as those here in the UK, are being used to set up tri-partite meetings, so that UK exporters and their Russian customers can come together round a table to plan their transport and logistics arrangements, under expert guidance from Wilson staff. We find that the chief concerns expressed by potential exporters to Russia relate to tariffs and duties, Customs clearance and guarantees of payment. We are able toprovide practical assistance in all these matters, as well as an assurance about the security of customers' cargo in transit."
