Alternative Mineral Resources in Construction

MINRES project workshop and database launch: London, 28th November.

MINRES is a DEFRA-funded project which seeks to match sources of mineral by-products or wastes with potential end uses in a range of construction products that includes cement & concrete, bricks, manufactured aggregates, and mineral insulation. The project is developing a web-based GIS system (based on BRE’s BREMAP tool), that will allow manufacturers of products and producers of mineral by-products to identify suitable materials or manufacturers in their area. A database has also been developed which includes a wealth of information including informative case studies and key information on the critical properties that are required for particular product end uses. These web-based tools
will be launched at the event.

The project is funded by DEFRA and undertaken by BRE, the Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO), National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) and the University of Leeds. For further details of the arrangements, please contact Derren Cresswell at MIRO on 0113 275 3723 or derren.cresswell@miro.co.uk.
