Jakarta Building Show Reflects Market Recovery

The 11th Building & Construction Indonesia (1-4 November 2000, Jakarta, Indonesia) attracted 175 exhibitors from 17 countries and was visited by 11,161 professionals from throughout Indonesia's building industry.

"We are not yet back to pre-crisis levels but certainly the recovering economy has boosted the construction industry," said show organiser Indra Putra. "The property sector is on the road to recovery, infrastructure projects are back on track and much needed maintenance and renovation work is now a priority."

This increased activity throughout the sector was reflected at the exhibition, where exhibitors reported contracts were being signed, machinery purchased and new agency/dealerships agreed.

"We had 160 serious enquiries in the first one and a half days - just amazing," said Mr J S Gill, director of the UK exhibitor, The Bright Ideas Company Ltd. "We are seeing the right people from throughout the country and they are buying. We must be back next year with a bigger stand."

Following predictions from construction information service company BCI Asia that the Indonesian construction industry will grow by 100% this year, the organisers of the exhibition are moving the 2001 event (26-29 September 2001) into the largest hall at the Jakarta International Exhibition Centre.
